Meritas

Boardman & Clark is the only law firm in Madison, Wisconsin with membership in Meritas, a nonprofit, worldwide association of independent business and litigation law firms. Through our Meritas membership, we offer our clients access to the experience and legal knowledge of nearly 5,000 lawyers at approximately 180 law firms throughout the world. Meritas affiliates know the laws of their own jurisdictions; they also know the local people and their ways of doing business.

Even if you do not need the services of one our affiliates, you can consider our Meritas membership an extra assurance of consistent quality and professionalism. All members of Meritas, including Boardman & Clark, must meet rigorous quality standards.

  • Each prospective Meritas member firm is carefully screened before being invited to join. Meritas is governed by a client advisory board, which establishes membership criteria and oversees the selection and retention of members.
  • Every Meritas member must adhere to these principles.
    • Consistency: Adopt and follow specific standards for service delivery.
    • Accountability: Leave the network if all standards are not maintained.
    • Credibility: Demonstrate a record of consistent client satisfaction.
  • Clients or their referring counsel are contacted for a satisfaction assessment every time they report using a member firm. In addition, feedback on a member firm's performance may be submitted to Meritas at any time.
  • Members' client satisfaction ratings are continually monitored. Even those firms with perfect records undergo re-certification standards as stringent as those used for new members.

Meritas member firms practice independently and are not in a relationship for the joint practice of law. Neither clients nor members are required to use the affiliation. For more information about Meritas, visit their Web site, www.meritas.org.

Client Service Guidelines

We want our clients to be informed of our guidelines. They are meant to help assure a continuing and successful relationship. We will follow these guidelines when providing professional services to our clients.

  1. We will communicate and explain our fee arrangements with our clients early in the relationship.
  2. We will work with our clients to develop a deadline for every matter we undertake, and every matter will be completed by the established deadline.
  3. We will identify our clients' needs and expectations in every matter and do our best to meet those needs and expectations.
  4. We will make our clients' problem our problem, and our clients' satisfaction our primary goal.
  5. We will inform our clients if a matter is transferred to another attorney.
  6. We will return our clients' phone messages on the day they are received.
  7. We will maintain a "can do" attitude that gives our clients confidence in our abilities, resources and enthusiasm.
  8. We will not consider a matter completed until we have followed up with our clients to confirm their satisfaction.
  9. We will ensure that there are no unforeseen issues for our clients as we approach the deadline.
  10. We will adjust our clients' billing if our services are not satisfactory.
